Local boy Jay Stein fired in a stunning double but it was not enough to give the Blue Brazil the 3 points against Forfar which would have kept the title dream alive. Dumbarton barring a collapse of epic proportions next Saturday have the league wrapped up and so it is to the play offs for Danny Lennons men.
A good start was needed by Cowden but its fair to say this did not occur. Former Cowden player Kevin Gordon pounced on slack defending to put Forfar one nil up after 3 minutes. Less than a minute later on loan Dundee Utd propsect Johnny Russell finished cooly under Davie Hay to make it 2-0 to Forfar with barely 4 minutes on the clock.
To change things around on came Tomana for Mbu and this spurred Cowden into life. Stein grabbed his first goal for Cowden on the half hour mark with an audacious chip over the keeper before blasting home his second right on half time.
The second half could not live up to the drama of the first half although both sides almost snatched a winner. John Dempster somehow missed after rounding the keeper while at the other end the ever busy Russell struck the bar.
A 2-2 draw after being 2 down so early can only be viewed as a point gained. This result however does mean Cowden have slipped down to 3rd in the table behind East Stirlingshire. The Shire are our next opponents in the league as well as in the play offs - 3 games in one week v the Shire.
