Cowdenbeath and Brechin came head to head at Central Park and both sides failed to find the net in a tight game. Cowden were without key players Davie Hay (recovering from concussion suffered against Arbroath last week) and Gareth Wardlaw (illness but thankfully not be the same illness that seems to be hitting football now at Blackburn and in France!).
Cowden started well and were the better team throughout the first half. Top scorer Scott McBride shot from 20 yards out but Craig Nelson in the Brechin goal delt with it comfertably. Nelson is a top keeper in the 2nd division and he was having a busy first half - Stein and Mbu both forced great saves from the keeper before John Armstrong had a header clip the top of the crossbar.
That is not to say Brechin did not have any chances either - McAllister proving to be a handful and forcing a comfertable save out of stand in keep Cameron Mackay.
The second half saw Brechin improve but still fail to create any real chances until the last few minutes when he made a superb double save from Byers and Renton. Cowden failed to create any real chances in this half other than McQuade firing wide when 1 on 1.
All in all Cowden can be happy to have earned a point against a team commonly found in the promotion play offs. Cowden have come a long way since that play off defeat to Stenhousemuir and now proudly sit 3rd in the 2nd division and on a run of 4 games unbeaten and 4 clean sheets in a row.
Next up is the Fife derby v East Fife. The match will kick of at NOON and not at 3pm due to a big stock car event that evening.
