A double from Gareth Wardlaw helped Cowden to a 10th league game in a row unbeaten after a pulsating Fife derby at New Bayview.
East Fife took the lead through Bobby Linn (looked a tad offside) before Wardlaw equalised. A blow for Cowden followed with Joe Mbu being subbed off to be replaced by Droudge. Soon a penalty for East Fife which was missed by McManus.
The 2nd half saw East Fife take the lead with 9 minutes remaining - Lloyd Young with the goal. Cowden got desperate and up popped Wardlaw again to snatch an equaliser in the 87th minute.
The game started at a pulsating pace with Young headering over in the 1st minute and Paul McQuade being denied by a stunning last ditch tackle at the other end of the park. East Fife took the lead in the 13th minute. A free kick was whipped in and Davie Hay could only push a point blank header into the path of Linn who fired home.
Cowden then upped their game and got a deserved equaliser when Wardlaw was given time to turn and shoot in the box and unsuprisingly the big striker hit the back fo the net. Right on half time Linton fouled McManus in the box and the leagues top scorer stepped up and missed the target - his first ever penalty miss in professional football.
The 2nd half saw both sides hit the woodwork: Young hit the inside of the post while Mark Baxter saw his deflected effort be tipped onto the bar by the East Fife keeper. Then there was the late drama as described above - Young headered home at the back post before Wardlaw was given far too much time and space to pick his spot and equalise.
The drama wasnt over though as in the last minute a cross right across the Cowdenbeath goalmouth was somehow missed by McManus (must have been having one of those days in front of goal) and the match ended tied at 2-2.
What a game.
