Cowenbeath finally got their first win of 2010 with an utter demolition of local rivals East Fife.
Cowden were on top from the beginning and were creating many chances. The East Fife keeper made a string of saves denying a Gareth Wardlaw header and and the defence managed to somehow block 3 Cowden attempts on goal in an almighty goalmouth scramble.
Finally Cowden took the lead after 34 minutes a free kick was layed-off to Jay Stein fired home from the edge of the box. Cowden were on top but despite chances for numerous players could not add to their lead.
We were punished just 5 minutes into the 2nd half when East Fife player manager Stevie Crawford headered home after Wardlaw had giften possession back to them. This goal sparked a stunning period of goals - firstly Wardlaw scored a header getting onto the end of a Dene Droudge cross. 6 minutes later Paul McQuade regained the top scorer spot at Cowden firing home after good play from John Armstrong.
3-1? Nah thats not enough for Cowden! 2 minutes later Darren McGregor lashed the ball home from the edge of the area for his first goal since his infamous goal in the play-off semi last year against East Stirlingshire (which then sparked Jim McInally into fury and led to his huge touchline ban).
Moments later though it was 4-2 -Mark Ramsay with a poor pass back allowed Paul McManus to nip in the box and round the keeper to give East Fife some hope. That hope was quickly killed off though through Ramsey who made amends for his error with his first goal of the season - flicking the ball home from another Droudge cross.
It was Stein that started it all and it was to be the local postman who scored the final goal. 80 seconds after Ramsey had scored, Stein tapped home (after a cute dummy from McQuade) to make it a stunning 6 goals for Cowden.
The Blue Brazil simply blew their Fife rivals away!
