Cowden started brightly and took the lead after 8 minutes - John Robertsons shot found John Gemmell who brilliantly steered the ball home past Tony Bullock. Cowden pressed for a second as the half wore on but were almost caught out at Montrose fired wide.
The 2nd half was a completly different story with Montrose dominating the match. They hit the post before Steven Tweed managed to header home from a corner. For the 3rd time in the past 4 matches Cowden conceded a penalty when Linton fouled his marker. The penalty was cooly slotted home and Cowden could not find a way back into the game.
