Cowdenbeath stumbled to a suprising 1-1 draw with bottom side Elgin City at Central Park today.
The 1st half was played in tough conditions with lots of wind and rain. The only chances of the half fell to Cowdens Marek Tomana who blazed over and an Elgin striker who headed straight at Davie Hay.
The 2nd half started off with Cowdenbeath dominating. Sub Graeme Brown had a cracking volley saved by the keeper before hitting the post when right through, moments later Jay Stein hit the bar right before Mark Baxter hit a cracking shot that was tipped round the post. later Brown headered over from within the 6-yard box with the goalkeeper beaten.
Completly against the run of play Elgin took the lead. Joe Mbu appeared to do a stunning last ditch tackle but the referee pointed to the spot. Once the protest had died down the penalty was slotted past Davie Hay.
Cowden then continued to pile on the pressure with Gemmell heading wide before at long last Cowden equalised. Fairbairns near post cross was headered home by Gemmell (his 11th league goal of the season). Cowden almost snatched a deserved winner when Fairbairn fired a free kick just wide.
Frustrated is the only word that can describe every Cowden fans feelings after the game.
