Cowden somehow left Borough Briggs without 3 points. Cowden played some great football and created many chances that should have been put away. Brian Fairbairn dropped to the bench to be replaced by Graeme Brown in the starting line-up.
Cowden started brightly but were dealt a huge blow when top scorer Paul McQuade had to limp off with a thigh problem. Numerous scrambles in the box from corners led to blocked chances for McGregor, Armstrong and Dempster. Adamson then fired over after a long run before the best chance of the half fell to Brown but his shot was well saved by the Elgin keeper. Right before half time Mark Ramsays stunning shot from the edge of the box was palmed away to safety.
Cowden started the second half in the same manner and kept creating chances. At long last the ball hit the back of the net and it was Brown who slotted the ball home after a good cross from the hard working Dempster.
Out of nowhere Elgin equalised when Wright spring the offside trap before rolling the ball past Hay and into the corner of the net. Cowden rallied after this shock and were gifted a perfect chance in the last minute when Dempster was brought down in the box. Dempster himself stepped up and blasted the ball over the crossbar to leace the game finished at 1-1.
A disappointing result for the Blue Brazil was made better when the news of 2nd place Stenhousemuirs defeat to promotion rivals Dumbarton meant Cowdens lead at the top of the table has been extended to 2 points. Next up for Cowden is Albion Rovers at home on Saturday the 24th.
