Cowden Move To The Top Of The League!

Well well well - who would have thought when Cowden were promoted 2 days before the season started that after 13 games Cowden would be proudly top of the league?  Well that is the case after we made it 1 defeat in 12 games with a narrow win versus Clyde.

It was Cowdens first visit to Cumbernauld to play at Broadwood and the team were rocked by the abscence of wingers Jay Stein and Brian Fairbairn.  Kenny Adamson and Mark Ramsey played on the wings instead.

It was a tight game as mentioned above with both side having some chances.  Cowden had the better chances with Paul McQuade almost breaking the crossbar and also having a stonewall penalty turned down.  It has to be said though that Cowden owe Davie Hay for the victory when he made a truely stunning save to keep Clyde at bay. 5 clean sheets out of 6 for the Cowden defence and that is even without last years player of the year Darren McGregor!

The winning goal came late on and it was justice for the penalty we were denied previously. Joe Mbu fired a shot which struck a Clyde players arm and up stepped Scott McBride to fire the ball home and send the Cowden fan into raptures.

There was barely time for the game to restart and this meant that Cowden took the 3 points and now are top of the league after Stirlings derby defeat to Alloa.

Roll on Dumbarton next week at Central Park.  Come along and support the team top of the league!
