Cowdenbeath turned in a stunning performance to destroy Peterhead 5-0 at Central Park. 2 goals from Paul McQuade had Cowden 2 up at half time before Gareth Wardlaw killed the game off in the 49th minute. Cowden controlled the game and went 4 up through young John Robertson with a stunning 25 yard strike. A minute later up popped Wardlaw again to make it 5-0.
The game started off quite even with neither side creating many chances. The opening goal came after 23 minutes with McQuade firing home from inside the 6 yard box. Peterhead made a sub taking a midfielder of for a striker which swung the game in Cowdens favour. McQuade popped up again to fire home from 10 yards after a goal mouth scramble.
The 2nd half began with Cowden dominating and it was no suprise when we hit the back of the net again. Steins cross was met by the flying Wardlaw to bullet a header home. Cowden were playing some superb football and were simply toying with the Peterhead players. Robertson's 20 yard shot was well saved but it was clear another goal was not too far away.
The goal of the game was from Robertson who controlled Jay Steins perfect corner perfectly before firing home from 30 yards (ala Beckham and Scholes). 4-0 was enough? Of course not. Not with this current Cowden team and youth striker John Ferguson was unlucky to see his shot hit the post but of course a Cowden player was first to pounce as Wardlaw tapped home to complete the rout.
A stunning performance from the Blue Brazil which fires us up to 3rd in the league after the first quarter of the season. Well done to the whole team and management staff.
