Cowdenbeath v Montrose

Last updated : 26 September 2008 By Cowden Mad
Cowden take on Montrose on league duty this Saturday at Central Park. The 2 sides have both had good starts to the season and Montrose currently lie 1 point above Cowden in the table. In fact Montrose are unbeaten in the league after 7 games.

The 2 sides met in the Co-op cup earlier on this season at Links Park and it was Cowden who progressed to the next round. A header from Darren McGregor and a stunning 30-yard free kick from Brian Fairbairn won the match for the Blue Brazil. Recent matches between the 2 sides has definetly favoured Cowden with Montrose only having won once against Cowden in the past 9 years! That game saw Montrose win 3-1 thanks to a hat-trick from Craig Smart. Iain Mauchlen scored for Cowden in a disappointing clash for them.

The last season that these 2 sides were in the same league was the Championship season for Cowden. 4 games against Montrose and 12 points were picked up without even conceding a goal!

Currently playing at Central Park is Jay Stein who had been playing for Montrose when he signed for Cowden. Jay played for Montrose in over 40 games and will be in line for another encounter with them. No other players have played for the other club.

It will be a tough encounter for both sides but if Cowden play like they did in the first half v Berwick then there is a great chance of the 3 points staying at Central Park.
